Get Canadian Poetry into Canadian Classrooms from Coast-to-Coast!

It’s unanimous: your classroom deserves poetry!

Are you a Canadian English teacher, from any province or territory? Do your students, grades 7 to 12, not really get contemporary poetry? Or maybe they love poetry, but you don’t have the resources to bring it to life? (Or maybe you know a Canadian English teacher that should be reading this?)

Well, Arc Magazine, one of Canada’s longest running poetry publications, wants to help!

Arc’s winter edition is our Kid’s Issue, all about poetry written by and for children. But we want to do more than that; we’re looking to put Arc’s best foot forward to nurture future poets and poetry lovers—and we want to partner with you!

As teachers, you understand the power of poetry to reach students. Poetry opens up language’s potential for expression and play, and inspires children to explore their imaginations. And Arc understands that your schedule is hectic, and resources can be scarce. With this in mind, Arc has developed a classroom poetry kit around its children’s issue that showcases poetry as it exists today, when poetry can be anything you want it to be and any one of your students can be a poet.

If you’re interested in a box set for your class—including a personal copy of the Kid Issue for every student and a lesson packet—all you need to do is ask:

Nominate your class for Poetry-in-a-Box with an email to classroom@arcpoetry.ca!

Please note: the number of classrooms awarded a workshop box will depend on the success of Arc’s fundraising campaign, and recipients across Canada will be randomly selected from interested educators. Poetry-in-a-Boxes will be shipped in February of 2013.
