Announcing Arc’s 2019 – 2020 Poet-in-Residence: Stevie Howell!

Arc Poetry Magazine is excited to announce that our 2019 – 2020 Poet-in-Residence will be Stevie Howell. Stevie’s second collection of poetry, I left nothing inside on purpose, won the 2019 Raymond Souster Award & was a finalist for the Pat Lowther & Trillium Awards. Her poetry & literary criticism has been published in numerous publications in Canada and abroad, & she has previously worked as the poetry editor for This Magazine. Stevie lives in Victoria, BC.

Arc’s Poet-in-Residence program offers the country-wide community of writers a chance to work with an influential Canadian poet. Participants in the program will have an opportunity to work one-on-one with Poet-in-Residence Stevie Howell to hone and shape their poems over a one-month period. Between 30 and 60 poets participate each year. Ideal candidates to participate in the program are poets who have not yet published a poetry collection or chapbook, although the program is open to all interested poets. Many poets, including Vincent Colistro, Christine McNair, Ben Ladouceur, and Phoebe Wang, have successfully used the program to help further their literary careers.

Stevie Howell’s tenure as Poet-in-Residence will run from October 2019 to June 2020. Stevie, along with selected mentees, will be a featured guest at VERSeFest, Ottawa’s international poetry festival, in 2021.

All those who submit their poems to Arc will be be considered for participation in the program. However, all poets are welcome to participate, and interested parties should please send queries to: coordinatingeditor@arcpoetry.ca.
